Blackburn and Darwen Liberal Democrats mad big gains in the local council elections on June 10. They went into the election with 8 seats and made for net gains to end with 12.

The Party also showed a big increase in its vote overall and came very close to gaining in extra seats.

The Liberal Democrat gains were:

Audley - Zamir Khan

Corporation Park - Abdul Rehman

Higher Croft - Fred Gollop

Little Harwood - Salim Sidat

Sudell - Roy Davies

In addition the independent candidate in Queen's Park Ward, Yusuf Sidat, decided to join the Liberal Democrats.

Unfortunately the Party lost 2 seats, one in Shear Brow and one in Shadsworth.

Zamir Khan's win in Audley was notable because he unseated the Labour Leader of the Council, Sir Bill Taylor.
