Labour Council turns its back on scrutiny

January 29, 2012 1:06 PM

Labour run Blackburn with Darwen Council were accused by the Liberal Democrats of not take scrutiny of their decisions seriously.

Lib Dem Group Leader, Cllr David Foster explained, " When the Executive make a decison then it is made public and councillors have 3 working days to decide if it should be called in so that councillors can examine it in more detail. On the 23rd December the Executive published 10 decisions, the most decisins on one day for many months. Because of bank holidays and council holiday that left only 2 days to talk to officers and consider calling it in."

The Lib Dem Group put forward a motion at the last council to have a minimum of 3 working days to Call-In a decision - this was turned down by Labour.

Cllr. Foster commented, "Labour seem happy to railroad decisions through this Council and do not want them the be considered cxarefully - what have they got to hide?"
