Liberal Democrat Leader, Nick Clegg MP visited East Lancashire on Thursday to launch the Liberal Democrats policy to revitalise our traditional industrial areas such as East Lancashire,

He visited Liberal Democrat run Burnley.

During his visit he said, "Top Civil Servants with responsibility for manufacturing and wider industrial policies could be moved to Northern towns like Burnley to oversee a major infrastructure investment programme to bring empty homes back into use , to restore vital transport links and to develop green technology, under Liberal Democrat plans to revitalise Britain's industrial heartlands"

• £3.5bn economic stimulus package to create new green jobs

• Create jobs in the North by moving Government agencies out of London

• Break up the big banks to create competitive financial sector

• Create new funding mechanisms to allow people to invest in local entrepreneurs

• New network of Regional Stock Exchanges to reduce dependence on London for equity

finance

• Empowering communities by making sure taxes raised locally are spent improving those areas

The built environment and public safety

• Bring 250,000 empty homes back to life, removing blight from our streets

• Make it far harder for banks to repossess your home

• Bring in thousands of extra police to stop burglary and anti-social behaviour

• Put local people back in control of bus services

• Invest in transport infrastructure

Education, training and jobs

• A pupil premium for disadvantaged children to bring class sizes down for all

• Paid training opportunities for 800,000 young people to create an army of new workers

• An additional 50,000 foundation degree places to get young people the skills they need

• Ensuring that our next generation of school leavers and graduates have skills for

manufacturing
