Lib Dems not to close Community Centres

November 26, 2007 11:12 PM

Labour Councillors jump the gun on Community Centre Closure

The campaign by Labour Councillors to save their Community Centre has been condemned as a waste of time by Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr David Foster. It was made clear to these councillors that the Council does not support the closure of their centre.

Cllr Foster, who is also Deputy Leader of the Council went on to say that they should be showing greater leadership and not misleading the members of their community. The Labour councillors are opposing the closure of Ivy St Community Centre. This was a proposal that cam from a Review that the previous Labour administration asked and paid for. The present ruling Partnership has taken a decision not to close the centre and look at ways of improving it.

Cllr Foster also said," It should be remembered that while the Labour Councillors are portraying themselves as champions of their community they presided over the withdrawal of support for a number of community centres/bases including:

Tockholes village Hall

Bennington St

Earcroft

Livesey

Galligreaves
